Temperatures - perfect for game viewing. Cool evenings /early mornings; average day time temperatures of 22°C | 71.6F in July and 26°C | 78.8F in August
Wildlife is drawn to the Luangwa river as out-lying lagoons dry up resulting in more interaction and activity. Birdeing is excellent. Palearctic migrants, mostly waders, start arriving. Grey crowned cranes gather daily in large numbers in the organically rich ‘delta’ area. Carmine bee-eaters congregate in the latter half of August. The temperature makes walking safaris more comfortable, and there are more frequent sightings of wildebeest, lion, eland and roan antelope. Natal mahogany and woolly caper bush are in flower. At Crocodile Camp there is a vehicle which offers access for additional walks in the game rich Ndau Lagoon area. The lagoon is full, which means more wildlife - with the usual Cookson’s wildebeest, zebras, roan and lion. This vehicle also allows for quick transfers to and from camp for early / late departures. Tafika Camp's hide becomes more active. A second hide is available for game viewing / birding at a nearby lagoon and a carmine hide is built in September. In addition, enjoy Mountain Biking, always popular but more so during this period.
